I never listen to the radio, but today it happened to be on in the car before I could plug my phone in and heard a familar voice and realized it was Vinay's. I was floored that he was on an NPR show, but they mentioned something about "when this first aired" at the end, so I looked it up and this was 9 years ago! Vinay was talking about eminence-based medicine and randomized controlled trials even back then. I actually remember listening to this small 3-part series as I was listening to a lot of podcasts back then, but of course didn't recognize him as I didn't become a listener of Z's until Covid, and it was only a few shows, but I highly recommend the short series, called Bad Medicine. Here's the first one:

I have nine thyroid nodules (tumors). There have been scans and several biopsies over the last decade or so. The last scan showed possible cancer so I got referred to a surgeon. So now the surgeon says the problem tumor is on the right and the biopsy doctor says it is on the left. I noted my concern with the surgeon's office on Monday but haven't heard back. Doctors have disagreements but this is surgery and being right matters. Now what?
