I welcomed my last Airbnb guest today and I am sad. Airbnb isn't what anyone would call a calling, heck it's not even my main job so what's with the painful goodbye I wondered 🤷♀️ Well as I was getting the place ready, dusting, vacuuming, making beds, putting out treats, placing things just where they might be needed but never in the way, with more care and thought than I'd ever take at home I was pondering on this. I realized it reminds me every time of my grandparents who after they'd retired from keeping pubs, looked after a holiday let. It's almost like a connection to those childhood days of getting that place ready with them and that's when I thought how hard it must be for anyone leaving a real calling. Anyone leaving healthcare, for instance. So often working in healthcare seems to run in people's blood too and that brings a whole other sense of responsibility. So I'm just here, now to tell anyone who needs to hear it that you have permission to put yourself first. ...
