A robin couple built a nest on my front porch..... then drama!

June 8th

The tenants on my front porch have babies!

You could say that I live in a Robin hood! 🙂

June 10th

The robin nest on my porch fell today. One baby didn't survive but I put 4 survivors back in the nest and put it back in place. That's all I can do.

June 11th

On the day after it fell and got put back up, the robin's nest seems to be business as usual. At least from the habits of the parent birds. Just now, mom robin was sitting on a handrail with food for the kids waiting for me to get away from the door.

Until they leave home for robin school, I'll make sure the nest is secure everyday.

I just saw a baby stick up an open mouth out of the nest!

June 12th

Robin Update

The nest is down again. One chick shows signs of life. There were adult feathers scattered with the chicks and nest, so I can imagine a mishap. I can't think of a way to secure the nest better, but I put the single chick and nest back up and watch again for the parents.

5 years ago, robins built a nest on the same spot and raised their young without incident. If they try again in the future, I will not let a nest go there again.

We want to save the world, but sometimes we can't save even the tiniest piece of it. The world will always cycle from birth to death to more birth and death, but that's not the whole story.

This is the best fix I can think of. I hope the robins can accept this, and the chick is still viable.

This configuration works!

The baby is vocal now, and sticks up its head but not for long enough to get a picture. 🙂
